About MEC Bikefest

MEC Bikefest is a community celebration of all things bicycle related. Our goal is to bring together Halifax’s bicycle community and those new to bikes, to celebrate the wonders of cycling. Come join us and make it the best bicycle bash in Halifax. This year MEC have partnered with the Halifax Cycling Coalition to combine Bikefest, with Open Street Party, which will open the streets to all forms of active transportation.

MEC Bikefest will feature learning opportunities for amateurs, experts and kids. With car-free streets it provides an excellent opportunity to experience riding in Halifax like never before!

There will be local retailers, advocacy groups, a charity bike drop-off, yummy food, buskers, prizes and giveaways. Cyclesmith will be on hand with a fun skill development activity for kids and TrailFlow Outdoor Adventures will be bringing several Mountain Bike features for riders of all skill levels to try. There will also be a flatland BMX show with extremely talented local riders performing. Plus, we have a Bike Swap. So if you’re looking for used bikes and cycling equipment or have used bikes or equipment you would like to sell, this is the place to be.

We will also have the new MEC bikes and Ghost® Bikes on hand. Come check them out and have a ride!

MEC Bike Swap

Similar to MEC Gear Swap events, MEC Bike Swap provides a place to sell your previously ridden bikes and used cycling gear. We can supply the table – you supply the gear.

• To sell or swap bikes or cycling gear, you can book a table prior to the event. Members must host their own tables and are responsible for selling their own goods.
• What can be sold? Individuals and vendors may sell used, demo, seconds, or sample gear and/or bikes. Retailers may sell used rental equipment or other gear. No current or old stock is to be sold at Bike Swap.
• MEC provides the space and one table. Individuals are responsible for all other necessary materials, float, chairs, and provide their own staff for the duration of the event.

Location

MEC Bikefest is located in Halifax at the Commons near the Oval.

Equipment

You don’t need your own bike to take part in MEC Bikefest – there will be numerous demo bikes available including new MEC bikes. Please be sure to bring a helmet.

MEC Bikefest happens rain or shine so please dress for the weather. Food and snacks will be available for purchase, or you are welcome to bring your own. And don’t forget your water bottle.

Participation

Participation in MEC Bikefest Halifax is free and open to all ages and skill levels. You must pre-register for clinics. Registration will start in May. Please remember to sign-up at the store as spaces are limited. Clinics are just $5 per course and basic safety inspections are free.

Clinics that will be offered include:

• Brake adjustment
• Drive train maintenance
• Flat repair

• Hill riding techniques
• Wheel truing
• Yoga for Cyclists
