MEC Paddlefest

About MEC Paddlefest

MEC Paddlefest is an urban celebration of all things paddlesport related. Whether you’re a beginner who’s never been in a boat, or an expert paddler looking to fine-tune your skills, there are plenty of learning opportunities both on water, and on land. Come make a splash with us at MEC Paddlefest Montreal/Longueuil.

Registration

MEC Paddlefest is an excellent opportunity to connect to Montreal’s active and diverse paddling community, and to learn about all types of self-propelled watersports activities. So come join the fun! This free event has something for everyone, so bring the whole family down to the sweetest paddling celebration of the summer.

Registration will open a few weeks before the event date.

Events

This year the MEC Paddlefest will be held over two days, and the 6th annual Classique des Milles Iles canoe race will take place on the Saturday. Here you will be able to watch up to 30 teams from across Quebec, Ontario, and the US compete in a 30km race. As in previous years, we will have boat trials, children’s activities, clinics, and courses.

Workshops and clinics

  • Introduction to sea kayaking
  • Intermediate sea kayaking
  • On-land workshops: theory; handling, packing and loading
  • Introduction to tandem canoeing
  • Introduction to creek kayaking
  • Free workshops for kids

Location

This year’s event will be held at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Participation

Everyone can learn with us. Clinics are available for those new to paddling and there will be free boat demos so you can try different canoes and kayaks from North American vendors. All on-water participants will need to sign a waiver and wear a PFD or life jacket.

If it rains, the event is still on (you’ll get wet anyway). In the event of lightning or other dangerous weather, on-water activities may be temporarily suspended. As long as it’s safe, we’ll be on the water.

Please note that all clinics and workshops are in French.

What to bring

Bring your boat! While MEC and its partners will provide some boats, there are never enough. Canoes and kayaks of all types are welcome. Your boat will be for your personal use. Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes and some sunscreen, water, snacks, and a PFD if you have one.
